Volkswagen has introduced a new model into its sedan lineup, and it's the 2019 Arteon. It can be thought of as a coupe because of its sleek appearance and sloping rear roofline. However, it will appeal to those who desire a four-door model with plenty of interior refinements and sporty performance. It offers a new choice for those who have up until now considered only the already popular Jetta.
The Jetta is no luxury vehicle by any stretch of the imagination, but it's nicely designed and offers a great deal in the areas of standard features. However, it's started to show its age, so the folks at Volkswagen have given it a makeover for 2019. The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta should be given a close look to see how it compares with the new Arteon. Below, a more detailed comparison is given.
Contemporary Design
The new 2019 Volkswagen Arteon is a sporty-appearing sedan that really looks more like a coupe. It's built upon the Modular Transverse Matrix architecture, and by the way, so is the new 2019 Jetta. The Arteon is about five inches longer than the outgoing CC model it's replacing. The exterior styling is intended to excite those who prefer a model that visually represents speed and an aggressive attitude. It's not built for the race tracks, but it will certainly look great sitting in the driveway. The newly redesigned 2019 Jetta is also longer, taller, and wider than the current 2018 model, and this means more interior space for passengers. The roofline on the 2019 model slopes nicely, but rear seating area headroom isn't going to be compromised.
Interior Features
The new 2019 Volkswagen Arteon is plush on the inside. Soft-touch upholstery is everywhere, and the base trim comes with leatherette seating surfaces. Heated front seats are standard on all trims, and other included amenities are an 8-inch screen display and the current version of the Volkswagen App Connect technology. MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are standard across the trim lineup. Some very exciting optional features are offered including massaging seats and the Digital Cockpit package. The new 2019 Volkswagen Jetta comes with a redesigned infotainment center that now sits higher on the dash, and it borrows the Virtual Cockpit from Audi. A 400-watt Beats Audio sound system will also be available.
Drivability
When one first looks at the new 2019 Volkswagen Arteon, the impression is one of get-up-and-go. Well, the engine that sits under the hood is a turbocharged 2.0L job that puts out a total of 268 horsepower. In other words, it's not a racer, but it does offer great acceleration and superior handling at high speeds. The Arteon will also be available with an all-wheel drive option. The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta also gets an engine upgrade, a turbocharged 1.4L engine rated at 148 horsepower. The new eight-speed transmission is a welcomed change from the previous six-speed. The outgoing model boasted superior handling for a car in this price range, and Volkswagen promises an even better driving experience on the 2019 version.
