The redesigned 2018 VW Tiguan has certainly made a big splash. Families can take full advantage of the crossover’s long list of improvements. Not only does the Tiguan now boast more passenger room, but it also offers an additional number of advanced safety technologies. Exciting features, such as the new Digital Cockpit, give you yet another reason to love the new Tiguan.
The 2018 Volvo XC60 also has also received a lot of positive feedback. Like the latest Tiguan, it benefits from an all-new design. Let’s see how the 2018 VW Tiguan stacks up to the 2018 Volvo XC60.
Driving Experience
Under the hood of the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan sits a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It now develops noticeably more torque than before. A new eight-speed automatic transmission seamlessly transfers the available power to the wheels. The combination of the Tiguan’s lively engine and quick-shifting transmission makes it especially fun to drive. Balanced handling is also one of the Tiguan’s strong points. In fact, Autoweek praises the Tiguan for its car-like driving dynamics. The new Volvo XC60 certainly has an impressive engine lineup. Unfortunately, there are a few issues that hurt the XC60’s overall driving experience. According to The Car Connection, lifeless steering and extra weight are two of the XC60’s major drawbacks.
Value
The 2018 VW Tiguan has become one of the top values on the market. It has the build quality of a far more expensive model. Unlike the pricier Volvo XC60, the Tiguan now offers a third-row seat. This is great news for the drivers who need to accommodate a couple extra passengers. To push the 2018 Tiguan further past its competition, Volkswagen loaded it a lot of standard equipment. Featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Volkswagen’s updated infotainment system has received high marks for its user-friendly design. A convenient backup camera and a touch-screen display come standard as well. While the Volvo XC60 also comes loaded with nice features, you will be forced to shell out more money. Furthermore, its bumper-to-bumper warranty is not as extensive. Volkswagen covers you for an additional 22,000 miles.
Appearance
While the previous Tiguan was a stylish ride, the all-new model has an even more striking appearance. Sharper edges help give the 2018 Tiguan a chiseled physique. A sportier front fascia further enhances crossover’s curb appeal. Signature headlights and a horizontal grille accentuate the Tiguan's refined character. If you desire a sportier look, step up to the aggressive R-Line model. It comes equipped with an eye-catching set of performance wheels and racier exterior trim. Some of the gorgeous exterior colors include Habanero Orange, Cardinal Red, and Platinum Gray. Expect the 2018 Volvo XC60 to also turn some heads. However, it lacks new Volkswagen Tiguan’s overall refinement.
While the 2018 Volvo XC60 is a fine crossover, it fails to offer more value than the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan. The Tiguan's premium features and enjoyable driving dynamics cannot be overlooked. To experience the new Tiguan in person, contact our Volkswagen dealer to schedule a test drive.
