For 2019, the Volkswagen Tiguan gets a few notable upgrades including the new R-Line trim, standard all-wheel drive on the SEL Premium trim, and an upgraded gauge cluster. The 2019 Volkswagen Atlas, slightly larger than the Tiguan, gets two new trim versions, a new tri-zone climate control system that's standard on most trims, and a longer list of standard driver aids. Below, both models are summarized in greater detail.
Interior Comfort
The 2019 Tiguan boasts a roomy, comfortable interior. The five-seat version has plenty of rear headroom and legroom, and the front seats are quite spacious. The front-wheel drive version comes with the third row as standard, but the inclusion of this row doesn't decrease the overall cargo capacity. Six passengers can accompany the driver on the third-row version. Standard features on the base trim include front seatback storage, dual illuminated vanity mirrors, interior air filtration, and steering wheel-mounted audio controls. The 2019 Volkswagen Atlas base trim comes with a huge second-row seating area with plenty of room for passengers to stretch out. Cargo capacity is impressive. The Atlas comes with dual vanity mirrors, dual zone air conditioning on the base trim and tri-zone on the uplevel versions, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, and lots of front and rear door pockets. Leather upholstery is available on both models.
High-Tech Features
Even if the base trim Tiguan is chosen, the buyer gets a lot for the price paid. Standard high-tech equipment and systems include USB connections, a memory card slot, a six-speaker sound system, and an advanced tech interface that's quite easy to master. It's considered one of the most intuitive systems available. The uplevel trims add on a larger screen display, and a rear entertainment system is an option. The 2019 Volkswagen Atlas comes with an external temperature display, trip computer, color screen display, and plenty of USB ports. Satellite radio and auxiliary audio inputs are standard on the uplevel trims.
Standard and Optional Safety Features
The 2019 Tiguan comes with standard anti-lock brakes, stability and traction control, auto delay off headlamps, head airbags for all three rows, dual front side-mounted airbags, emergency braking assist, rear door child safety locks, and daytime running lights. The driver assist package is standard on the uplevel trims, but the rearview camera is included even on the base model. The 2019 Volkswagen Atlas comes with the same basic safety features listed above for the Tiguan, but for 2019, the Atlas has standard frontal collision assistance, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert across the trim lineup. The 2019 Tiguan received perfect five-star rating for side crash protection from the NHTSA, and the 2019 Atlas was awarded a perfect five-star rating for overall protection.
