New for 2019 is standard all-wheel drive on the SEL Platinum trim, standard alarm system and rear parking sensors on the lower trims, and a separate trim package for the R-Line variant. The Tiguan also offers plenty of stand-alone options and packages, so you've got a lot of flexibility when choosing the model and trim that suits your fancy.
Performance
A 2.0L turbo-4 powers the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan, and power is sent to the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. The SEL Platinum gets all-wheel drive as standard. Total output is 184 horsepower. Acceleration is just average, but the Tiguan cruises effortlessly, and ride quality is superb. Steering is precise, meaning confidence in the straight-line performance at high speeds. Even if you choose the available 20-inch wheels, handling remains excellent even when traveling over uneven surfaces. There's a special Sport Mode available on the 4MOTION version, and it's something you'll want to check out when you schedule a test drive.
Interior
It's not a luxury vehicle, but everything about the 2019 Tiguan's interior is stylish if a bit conservative. The front console and panel has a nicely arranged gauge cluster, and the driver's seat is perfectly positioned for easy operation of the dash controls. Audio controls are mounted on the steering wheel, and adaptive cruise control is standard except on the S four-door trim. Other standard features include cupholders, a vanity mirror, a rear seat slide feature, and front seatback storage. The third row is optional, so you'll want to check out the various trims to see which offer this feature. Standard high-tech features include USB connections and external media control. The base trim comes with a 6.5-inch screen display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and Bluetooth. Uplevel trims add on an 8-inch screen, standard active tech, and additional USB ports. The uplevel versions also get heated front seats and leather upholstery.
Safety
You'll feel safe and secure when driving the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan thanks to standard 4-wheel ABS, stability and traction control, automatic brake drying, daytime running lights, dual front side-mounted airbags, rear curtain bags, and rear door child safety locks. Turn signal mirrors and brake assist are also standard. The uplevel trims come with standard blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection. The Tiguan received top scores for side-impact protection and rollover protection from the NHTSA.
