In the compact crossover SUV market, the Volkswagen Tiguan is a stunning option that many shoppers are overwhelmingly drawn to. Since its introduction to the automotive market during the 2007 model year, this five-passenger SUV has delivered in the areas of comfort, safety, power and more. Volkswagen added a variation to the Tiguan for the 2017 model year. The Tiguan Limited is a smaller version of the standard Tiguan, but a closer comparison of both SUV models will show you that these two vehicles appeal to different buyers in critical ways.
Comfort
Compared to the Tiguan, the Tiguan Limited is slightly taller. However, it has a much shorter wheelbase and is more than 10 inches shorter in length. When you stop by the dealership to test drive both options, you will notice that the Tiguan has more headroom in the rear row. However, the Tiguan has almost 20 cubic feet of additional passenger space overall than the Tiguan Limited has. In addition, the Tiguan also has more cargo space. You may notice that the comfort of the seats and the general interior design and layout are similar for these two SUV models. For some drivers, the extra space in the Tiguan may be desirable or even necessary depending on your intended use of your next vehicle.
Performance
At the base level, the Tiguan and Tiguan Limited are both equipped with the same 2.0-liter, Turbo 4-cylinder engine with direct fuel injection. The Tiguan, however, comes with an 8-speed auto Tiptronic transmission with Sport Mode. The Tiguan Limited has the 6-speed variant of this transmission. With this difference as well as with the Tiguan’s 330 additional pounds of body weight, the Tiguan Limited offers improved power. In fact, the Tiguan registers with 184 horsepower while the Tiguan Limited offers 200 horsepower. These vehicles share similar suspension, braking and steering systems.
Value
At the base level, the Tiguan Limited is priced slightly less than the Tiguan. The Tiguan Limited is smaller, but it is more powerful and more affordable. Keep in mind that the Tiguan Limited is only available in two trim levels, and the Tiguan comes in eight trim levels. Therefore, you have the option of purchasing a more powerful and much more well-equipped Tiguan if you are willing to pay the higher price for it. As you can see, there is true value in the Tiguan Limited if you do not need a substantial amount of interior space. Otherwise, the Tiguan is a superior option that outperforms many other vehicles in its class.
