The 2018 Volkswagen Jetta is a mid-size sedan that comes in six models. This sporty car offers three turbocharged engines and the DSG automatic transmission. The 2018 Honda Civic is a small sedan that offers one turbo engine and one naturally aspirated engine. Carrying the Front Assist and Park Pilot technology, the Jetta has safety features that you won't find in the Honda Sensing suite.

Performance

The first powertrain option in the 2018 VW Jetta is a turbocharged 1.4 L engine that cranks out 150 hp 185 pound-feet of torque. Having a displacement of 1.5 L, the Honda Civic's turbo engine doesn't generate more than 167 lb-ft of torque. Despite having the i-VTEC badge, the naturally aspirated 2.4 L engine has a peak torque rating of only 138 lb-ft. When you opt for a 1.8 L engine in the Jetta, you get up to 170 hp and about 185 lb-ft of torque. The third powertrain choice for this sedan is a 2.0 L engine that yields 210 hp and just under 210 lb-ft of torque. These ratings can only be achieved with premium unleaded gasoline. Carrying the DSG label, the Jetta's six-speed automatic transmission offers easier and smoother gear changes than the Civic's six-speed manual transmission. A four-corner independent suspension also gives this VW excellent stability on any paved road.

Interior

The seats in the 2018 Jetta are available with the patented V-Tex upholstery that's stylish, durable and comfortable. This premium leatherette material includes red stitching patterns. Whether it's cold or hot outside, you'll stay comfortable in this sedan by turning on the Climatronic automatic transmission system with dual zones. Even though it also has two distinct zones for the front cabin, the automatic climate control unit in the Civic doesn't come with any patented technology. In addition to offering good ergonomics, the Jetta delivers awesome connectivity on the go through the Car-Net App-Connect suite. You'll see your favorite applications on a 6.3-inch touch screen with a high-resolution display. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are accessible in this signature multimedia platform. The Civic also supports Android devices and iPhones. When you get the Car-Net Guide & Inform, Traffic and Travel Link on SiriusXM will be readily available. Additionally, the Car-Net Security & Service includes remote management and other connectivity features. An eight-speaker audio system by Fender is another premium technology in the Jetta.

Safety

The Adaptive Cruise Control is available in the 2018 VW Jetta and Honda Civic. Both sedans have technology that monitors the blind spots of the driver. Featuring automatic braking, the Jetta's Front Assist is comparable to the Civic's Collision Mitigation Braking. These cars also have warning systems that come on when a front crash is imminent. When equipped with the Park Pilot, this VW sedan should be easier to park than the Civic, which lacks any similar parking aides. The Intelligent Crash Response System is another advanced safety feature that isn't matched by anything in the Honda Sensing package.
