Around since 1979, the Jetta is one of Volkswagen’s top-selling model. And that’s because of its ability to provide a premium and roomy cabin, strong engine options, and good fuel economy. With the 2018 model year, the Jetta is deep into its sixth generation of production. The 2018 Volkswagen Jetta is split into S, Wolfsburg Edition, SE, SE Sport, SEL, and GLI.
Performance
The S, Wolfsburg Edition, and SE trims of the 2018 Jetta are powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine, which provides 150 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The SE Sport and SEL use a 1.6-liter turbocharged I4 with 170 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Only the GLI gets a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4, which generates 210 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. The S, Wolfsburg Edition, and SE are paired with a 5-speed manual transmission; and the SE Sport, SEL, and GLI use a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Interior and Features
A five-seater with 94.1 cubic feet of passenger space, the 2018 Volkswagen Jetta comes with standard features like cruise control, a rearview camera, a USB port and auxiliary audio jack for connecting mobile devices, Bluetooth® wireless technology for hands-free phone operation and audio streaming, a single-disc CD player with MP3 and WMA playback capability, an SD memory card reader, and a 5-inch touchscreen. Leatherette upholstery and front-seat heating capability once you upgrade to the Wolfsburg Edition. Enhancements or included features such as keyless access with push-button engine start, a three-month complimentary SiriusXM® satellite radio subscription, voice control, and a larger 6.3-inch touchscreen appear on the SE onwards. The SEL and GLI have dual-zone automatic climate control, a multi-information display, a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a navigation system, and an eight-speaker Fender® Premium Audio System. The GLI is the only trim with features such as a color multi-information display, a self-dimming mirror, and sports-style seats with red contrast stitching.
Safety
For safety, the 2018 Volkswagen Jetta comes with electronic vehicle stability control, traction control, power-assisted anti-lock front vented and rear solid disc brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, an intelligent crash response system, and six airbags. Starting with the SE, Volkswagen adds a blind spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert. The SEL and GLI also have adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, and pedestrian detection.
