The competition between compact sedans remains steep, and two prominent contenders in 2025 are the Volkswagen Jetta and the Hyundai ELANTRA. Both of these models are eager to get you around Alexandria with quickness and comfort and in mind, but only one deserves the crown for the prevailing car. Performance
Buyers of compact sedans are often on the road a lot, which is why it’s important to have the Jetta’s standard 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine accompanying you. With its production of 158 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque, it’ll be much more fun to operate in comparison to the ELANTRA’s meager 2.0L 4-cylinder powertrain’s 147 horsepower and 132 lb.-ft. of torque. While Hyundai’s car is inarguably efficient with its standard Smartstream® Intelligent Variable Transmission, Volkswagen’s entry comes equipped with a standard 8-speed automatic gearbox that will result in more responsive acceleration and livelier exhaust notes. Both sedans are engineered with similar standard gas-saving technologies, however, with the ELANTRA’s system being dubbed Idle Stop and Go and the Jetta’s labeled as Engine Start-Stop.
Comfort and Convenience
The small luxuries within the 2025 Volkswagen Jetta and the 2025 Hyundai ELANTRA begin to stack up after just a few roundtrips through I-395, and one of these features is the former model’s standard leather-wrapped steering wheel. While the latter vehicle does offer access to this supple amenity, you’ll have to upgrade to a higher trim in order to acquire it. Ventilated front seats aren’t available at all in the ELANTRA, however, though they are within the top-of-the-line SEL version of the Jetta. Sporty personality traits can be found in either model, as you can have optional steel pedals in each car for sustained foot grip even if your shoes are slippery from having walked through rain.
Technology
Your immediate surroundings within the cockpit of the Volkswagen Jetta will feel superior to that of the Hyundai ELANTRA thanks to its standard 8-inch digital instrument display. The competitor’s entry houses a standard 4.2-inch gauge cluster, which will look quite dated in comparison to the Jetta. While each model does feature a standard 8-inch infotainment display, Volkswagen’s sedan has it positioned slightly lower, giving you a bit more focus on the road while you drive to the Pinecrest Golf Course. You’ll be able to get there with a smartphone at 100 percent battery capacity thanks to an available wireless charger that is luckily found in both cars. Though the 2025 Jetta and 2025 ELANTRA do share some similarities, we’ll have to give this round to Volkswagen’s sedan.
