2025 Volkswagen Taos
There’s so much to love about the Volkswagen Taos, as there has been since its introduction in 2018. Shrewd buyers have been drawn to the model thanks to its blend of versatility, efficiency, style, and comfort. The 2025 model builds on a solid reputation with some significant updates that raise its appeal even further. Specifically, the exterior has been refreshed with a redesigned front bumper, a new grille featuring an optional LED light bar, and standard projector-type LED headlights (adaptive on higher trims). The rear now showcases connected taillights and an illuminated VW badge for a premium touch.
The cabin also sees notable improvements, as the 2025 Taos introduces a revised dashboard integrating a "floating" 8-inch touchscreen that gives it a high-tech feel. Under the hood, the retuned 1.5-liter turbocharged engine now produces 174 horsepower – an increase of 16 hp over the previous model. On top of all that, versions with all-wheel-drive (AWD) now have a conventional eight-speed automatic transmission as well, replacing the dual-clutch transmission of the past.
Trims, Powertrain, and Fuel Economy
There are four trim levels of the ‘25 Taos: S, SE, SE Black, and SEL. They all get the aforementioned 174-hp 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive – which is standard for the SEL – is available. Although the EPA had not yet published fuel economy estimates for the ‘25 Taos as of this writing, it’s expected to deliver efficiency similar to that of the 2024 model, which achieved 28 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway with FWD and 24 city/32 highway with AWD.
Impressive Amenities
The Taos S has a fine assortment of standard features, like remote start, cloth upholstery, heated front seats, an 8-inch digital gauge cluster, proximity keyless entry, roof rails, automatic LED projector headlights, heated side mirrors, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Heated washer nozzles and 18-inch wheels are included in conjunction with AWD. The SE is touched up with upholstery in a combination of cloth and leatherette, a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel, a power-adjustable driver's seat, wireless phone charging, automatic climate control, an adaptive front lighting system, and 18-inch wheels. A panoramic glass roof is optional.
The SE Black mirrors the SE's features while adding distinctive black exterior accents and the panoramic sunroof. The AWD will be upgraded with 19-inch wheels. The top-of-the-line SEL goes without the SE Black’s darker trim elements but gets the panoramic sunroof, along with genuine leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, an illuminated grille, and 19-inch wheels.
Advanced Safety and Driver Assistance
The ‘25 Taos is outfitted with Volkswagen's IQ.Drive safety suite, providing a comprehensive range of standard driver aids. These advanced technologies include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keeping assist, and semi-automated driving assist. All trims except for the base also get front and rear parking sensors for added convenience; the SEL is the only trim that gets dynamic road sign display.
Connectivity and Entertainment
The 2025 Taos’s infotainment array is a considerable part of its appeal. The standard setup, found in the S, includes an 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, and a multi-speaker sound system. The higher trims are enhanced with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, and voice recognition.
