In a market increasingly focused on crossovers and trucks, Volkswagen keeps the sedan segment vibrant with the compact Jetta. For more than 40 years, this five-seater has offered European style and engaging driving, plus the increasingly unique availability of a manual transmission. The 2024 edition presents a crisp, modern design and standard turbocharged power.
Volkswagen has also updated the 2024 Jetta by making advanced driver aids standard across the model’s range. At the same time, entry-level trims get more premium features. For instance, the base S gets an auto-dimming rearview mirror and rain-sensing windshield wipers, while the Sport now comes with heated front seats. Further adding to the Jetta’s appeal is Volkswagen’s standard four-year or 50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. The automaker also provides two years or 20,000 miles of no-charge scheduled standard maintenance through the Carefree Maintenance Program.

Trims and Powertrain
Your four trim choices for the 2024 Jetta are the S, Sport, SE, and SEL. Front-wheel drive and a 158-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine are the same across the lineup. The S and Sport trims get a six-speed manual transmission as the default, but they’re eligible for the eight-speed automatic transmission that comes standard on the SE and SEL. The EPA-estimated fuel economy with the manual transmission is 29 mpg around town and 42 mpg on the open road. With the automatic gearbox, the Jetta is rated for 29 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway.
Standard Features
The Jetta S is simply yet nicely equipped with fabric upholstery, manual air conditioning, LED exterior lighting with automatic headlights, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, a six-way adjustable driver's seat, a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel, a leather-covered gearshift knob, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a USB port, and 16-inch alloy wheels. The Sport gets heated sport front seats, unique exterior accents, an enhanced differential for improved cornering, front accent lighting, heated power side mirrors, a rear seat armrest with cupholders, a space-saving spare tire, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Upgrades are the name of the game for the SE, which has dual-zone automatic climate control, V-Tex upholstery, heated front seats, an eight-way power driver's seat with lumbar controls, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, remote start, and an additional USB port. The SEL goes further upscale with leather seating surfaces, wireless device charging, a power sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, a heated steering wheel, a driver's memory system, a 10.25-inch configurable digital instrument panel, a light bar across the grille, and ambient cabin lighting.
Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology
VW’s IQ.DRIVE, a suite of the latest driver-assist features, is installed in every ’24 Jetta. The technologies included are forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and Travel Assist semi-autonomous driving. The SEL also gets automatic high beams. All Jettas with an automatic transmission come with emergency assist (the vehicle will slow down and stop if the driver fails to respond to alerts).
Infotainment and Connectivity
The Jetta’s infotainment system is built around a 6.5-inch touchscreen with four speakers for most trims (the SEL gets an 8-inch touchscreen with a nine-speaker BeatsAudio system). The supporting technology includes Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and access to remote services via the Car-Net smartphone app. The SEL is further loaded with navigation, HD Radio, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
