The 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 uses its high style and fine standard features to rise above competitors in the all-electric compact crossover segment.
In changes for model year 2024, ID.4 trims with the 82-kWh battery now have a stronger performance drive unit that makes 282 horsepower with RWD and 335 hp with AWD. Those same models also benefit from superior driving range this time around: 263 miles with RWD and 291 with AWD. Other than that, this latest ID.4 is now eligible for a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen featuring user-friendly backlit sliders for volume and climate control.
Trims, Performance, and Charging
The 2024 ID.4 lineup is split into four trim choices: Standard, Pro, S, and Pro S. The RWD Standard and S produce 201 hp and supply 206 miles of range with their motor and 62-kWh battery. The RWD Pro and Pro S make 282 hp and provide 291 miles of range thanks to their larger motor and 82-kWh battery. If the Pro and Pro S are ordered with AWD, they will receive an additional motor and generate a total system output of 335 hp. They’ll also be set up with the 82-kWh battery, which allows for 263 miles of range. As far as towing, ID.4s with AWD can pull up to 2,700 pounds.
The Standard and S have a 140-kW DC fast-charging rate, while the Pro trims with the 82-kWh battery accept 175 kWh of DC fast-charging. This enables all ID.4 trims to DC fast charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes. Charging from a Level 2 system will fully juice the 62-kWh battery in around 6 hours and 15 minutes, or 8 hours with the 82-kWh battery.

The Standard ID.4 gets an array of premium amenities, such as proximity keyless entry, wireless phone charging, cloth upholstery with leatherette bolsters, heated front seats (manually adjustable), a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, rain-sensing windshield wipers, 10-color ambient interior lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a digital gauge cluster, four USB ports (two data and two charging), and a 60/40-split folding rear seatback. On the outside, look for roof rails, heated side mirrors, illuminated door handle recesses, automatic LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and taillights, and 19-inch machined alloy wheels. The Pro is similar in its equipment array, but it has the more advanced powertrain.
The S has the same powertrain as the Standard, but its otherwise improved with V-Tex (leatherette0 upholstery, power-adjustable front seats with position memory and massage settings, a heated steering wheel, a panoramic fixed-glass roof, an expanded ambient interior lighting system with 30 color options, a hands-free liftgate, side mirrors with position memory, adaptive front lighting, a rear seatback with a folding center armrest and pass-through, illuminated exterior accents, and 20-inch two-tone machined alloy wheels. The Pro S tops the range with ventilated front seats and the stronger powertrain from the Pro.

No matter which 2024 ID.4 trim you choose, you’ll get the IQ.Drive safety suite. It bundles adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, road sign assist, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, an automatic parking system (Park Assist Plus), rear parking sensors, driver attention monitoring, and lane keeping assist.
Staying Connected and Entertained
The infotainment system in the Standard and S consists of a 12-inch touchscreen with navigation, voice recognition, wireless smartphone connectivity (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, Car-Net remote vehicle services, and a 7-speaker sound system. The Pro and Pro S upgrade to a retooled 12.9-inch touchscreen with backlit volume sliders and a premium 9-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
